Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET): eligibility, calendar and the Bangalore colleges that admit through it

KCET is the state entrance test through which the Karnataka Examinations Authority allots government-quota seats in engineering, pharmacy, architecture (with a NATA score), B.Sc Nursing, agriculture and allied programmes across Karnataka. Most private engineering colleges in Bangalore fill roughly 45 per cent of their seats through KEA's KCET counselling; the remainder go through COMEDK and the management quota.
The test has separate papers in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, each 60 questions with no negative marking. Ranks are prepared for each stream from the KCET score combined with second-PUC or 10+2 marks in the relevant subjects.
For a Bangalore admission, KCET matters most if you want a government-quota fee at a private college: the same seat at the same college can cost a fraction of the management-quota fee.
Eligibility
10+2 or second PUC with Physics and Mathematics plus Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Electronics or Computer Science, with at least 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Karnataka) for engineering; Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics for pharmacy; Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English for B.Sc Nursing. KCET: common questions
Do I need KCET to get into an engineering college in Bangalore?
Not necessarily. KCET fills the government-quota seats; COMEDK UGET and the management quota fill the rest. KCET is the route to the lowest fee at a private college and the only route to most government colleges.
Is KCET used for B.Sc Nursing admissions?
KEA conducts counselling for B.Sc Nursing seats in Karnataka on KCET ranks. Many private nursing colleges in Bangalore also admit directly on 10+2 marks; confirm the route with each college.
