Management Quota in Karnataka Colleges: What It Is, Fees and How It Works
Explainer · Seat quotas · reviewed 2026-11-07 by the Eduvy counselling team
Management quota seats are the seats in a private college that are not filled through KEA or COMEDK counselling. KEA allots government seats on CET rank and publishes their fees. Medical and dental seats are different: KEA counsels all of them. A management-quota seat can also make you ineligible for some fee reimbursement.
What is management quota in Karnataka?
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) allots government seats through its CET counselling. It publishes a seat matrix and fee structure for each course (KEA UGCET 2026 page, as of 7 Nov 2026).
The seats a private college keeps outside KEA and COMEDK counselling are what families call management-quota seats.
Medical and dental seats work differently. KEA runs common counselling for all government, private, minority, NRI and other seats in those courses. Source: KEA 2026 information bulletin, as of 7 Nov 2026.
Private AYUSH colleges also fill all their seats through KEA, including management and NRI seats (same bulletin).
Government quota vs management quota vs NRI quota
- Government quota: allotted by KEA on CET rank, or on NEET rank for medical courses. KEA publishes the fee for these seats.
- COMEDK seats: engineering seats in private unaided colleges, allotted on the COMEDK UGET rank (COMEDK 2025 process document, as of 7 Nov 2026).
- Management quota: the college's own seats outside these rounds. Ask the college for its admission rule and fee in writing.
- NRI quota: for children or wards of Non-Resident Indians. For medical and dental NRI seats, KEA asks for an NRI ward certificate (KEA bulletin, Annexure 6).
- More on NRI seats: our NRI quota admission guide.
Who fixes management quota fees?
KEA publishes fee structures for the seats it allots. COMEDK says it has nothing to do with fixing tuition fees, other fees or the seat-sharing formula.
We could not open Karnataka's fee law or a current seat-sharing agreement on an official site when we checked on 7 Nov 2026. So we do not quote a seat share or fee cap here.
To compare what colleges list, use the Bangalore College Fee Index. It shows median listed fees by course. The EMI calculator splits a total fee into monthly payments.
How management quota admission works
- Check your CET or COMEDK rank first: a counselling seat may be within reach. See KCET colleges by rank and COMEDK colleges by rank.
- Ask the college for its management-quota fee, refund policy and eligibility rule in writing.
- Pay only into the college's bank account, and keep every receipt.
- For a step-by-step on applying, see how to apply for a management quota seat.
Scholarship for management quota students in Karnataka
The Backward Classes Welfare Department's fee reimbursement covers government-quota seats only (BCWD fee concession page, as of 7 Nov 2026).
That page says management-quota seats, private seats in private colleges and COMEDK seats are not eligible.
SSP lists a separate tuition-fee reimbursement for SC and ST students studying professional courses under management and private quota. Source: SSP schemes, as of 7 Nov 2026.
Rules differ by department and year. Read the post-matric eligibility criteria document on the SSP Downloads page before you choose a seat.
