GNM Nursing in Bangalore: Course, Eligibility, Fees and Admission 2026-27

Course guide · GNM nursing · reviewed 2026-11-07 by the Eduvy counselling team

GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) is a three-year diploma in nursing. The Indian Nursing Council asks for 10+2 with English, at least 40% overall and 40% in English, and a minimum age of 17. In Karnataka, the State Nursing Council publishes the list of recognised GNM schools.

What is the GNM course, and how long is it?

GNM stands for General Nursing and Midwifery. It is a nursing diploma whose curriculum and eligibility rules come from the Indian Nursing Council (INC).

The INC says the diploma was cut from three and a half years to three years from 2015-16. Internship is now built into the syllabus (INC FAQs, as of 7 Nov 2026).

The INC adds that the older three-year and three-and-a-half-year GNM courses are treated as equivalent, when run by recognised institutions.

GNM nursing eligibility

  • 10+2 with English from a recognised board, with at least 40% overall and 40% in English (INC eligibility criteria, as of 7 Nov 2026).
  • Science is preferable but not compulsory. State Open School and NIOS passes are accepted.
  • A 10+2 vocational ANM course, or CBSE vocational Health Care Science, with 40% and English, also qualifies.
  • A registered ANM with a pass mark is eligible.
  • Age: at least 17 on 31 December of the admission year, and at most 35. There is no age bar for ANM or LHV candidates.
  • You must be medically fit. Admission happens once a year. SC and ST candidates get a 5% relaxation.
  • Foreign nationals need a 12th-standard equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities.

GNM nursing course fees in Bangalore

The table below is computed from fees published on Eduvy college profiles. Colleges without a published GNM fee are left out.

We also leave out any fee repeated at five or more colleges, unless a college verified it. A figure shared that widely looks like a bulk entry, not a quote.

Some listings may be a first-year fee rather than the full course. Open the profile and confirm the fee with the school before you pay.

Compare nursing fees in the Bangalore College Fee Index, or split a fee into instalments with the EMI calculator.

GNM nursing admission in Karnataka

Karnataka's GNM board is the Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board (KSDNEB). The Director of Medical Education, Bengaluru, chairs it (Medical Education Department, as of 7 Nov 2026).

We could not open the KSDNEB website when we checked on 7 Nov 2026; its security certificate had expired. So we cannot confirm this year's admission schedule.

Ask each school how it fills its seats, its admission dates, and its fee, in writing.

Recognition: what to check before you join

  • The Karnataka State Nursing Council's list for 2023-24 names 671 institutions recognised for GNM (KSNC list, as of 7 Nov 2026).
  • That list notes that inspection and renewal certificates were pending for 2023-24. Ask the school for its current recognition letter.
  • Check the school's INC recognition too, since the INC sets the GNM curriculum.

Checklist

  1. Check you meet the INC rule: 10+2 with English, 40% overall and in English, age 17-35.
  2. Find the school on the Karnataka State Nursing Council's GNM list.
  3. Ask for the current recognition letter and the full three-year fee in writing.
  4. Compare published fees in the table above and on the Fee Index.
  5. Keep every fee receipt; loans and EMI plans ask for them.
